Comfort Cases
Scheer, the organization’s founder, grew up as a foster child and it inspired him to create the nonprofit. In the grant application, he described taking in foster children who arrived at his home with their few belongings in a trash bag. “Comfort Cases, Inc. believes that every child deserves to feel a sense of dignity and every child deserves to pack their belongings in a special bag that they can call their own.” Each backpack, known as a Comfort Case, is filled with a pair of warm pajamas, a blanket, a stuffed animal, personal care/hygiene items, art/school supplies, a book and a journal or coloring book, depending on the age of the foster child.
